Service Overview

About this Service

Overview of DIN eKYC

Director Identification Number (DIN) eKYC is the annual KYC verification mandatory for all DIN holders (directors and designated partners) under Section 153 of the Companies Act, 2013. Filed through Form DIR-3 KYC (web-based) or DIR-3 KYC (with DSC) between April 1 and September 30 annually, this process verifies directors' personal details, ensuring updated records with the MCA and preventing fraudulent directorships.

The eKYC process requires directors to verify/update their mobile numbers, email IDs, residential addresses, and identity proofs (PAN, Aadhaar, Passport). First-time filers must use the DSC-based form with attached documents, while subsequent filings use the web form with OTP verification. The mobile number and email must be unique to the director and verified through OTP. Failure to file results in DIN deactivation with a penalty of ₹5,000 for reactivation.

Deactivated DINs disqualify directors from holding office, and companies with all directors deactivated face compliance defaults. Reactivation requires filing the KYC form with late fees. The annual KYC ensures the MCA database remains current, facilitating enforcement actions against defaulting directors and preventing the use of shell directors in fraudulent companies.

Who Should Opt for This Service?

  • Directors of companies requiring annual KYC compliance
  • Designated partners of LLPs with DIN numbers
  • Directors with deactivated DINs requiring reactivation
  • Newly appointed directors filing DIN KYC for the first time
  • Directors updating changed mobile numbers or email addresses
  • Directors whose DINs were flagged for non-compliance

Note: DIR-3 KYC must be filed by September 30th annually; failure results in DIN deactivation by October 1st, requiring ₹5,000 penalty for reactivation and potential director disqualification.

DIN e-KYC (Director Identification Number e-Know Your Customer) is the annual compliance requirement for all directors to update their personal details including mobile number, email ID, PAN, and address with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to ensure accurate records and prevent misuse of DINs.

All directors holding a valid DIN must file DIN e-KYC annually by September 30, regardless of whether they are currently directors in any company or not. Even disqualified directors must file to maintain their DIN status.

The due date for filing DIN e-KYC (Form DIR-3 KYC) is September 30 of every year. Directors who file after the due date must pay a late fee of ₹5,000. Non-filing results in deactivation of the DIN.

If not filed by the due date, the DIN is marked as 'Deactivated due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC'. A deactivated DIN cannot be used for filing any company forms or for appointment as director. It can be reactivated by filing the form with a late fee of ₹5,000.

Directors must verify and update their full name, father's name, date of birth, nationality, PAN, passport number (if applicable), mobile number (OTP verified), email ID (OTP verified), and current residential address with proof.

DSC is not required for filing DIR-3 KYC if there are no changes in details from the previous year. However, if any details are being updated or if it is the first-time filing, DSC of the director is required to validate the changes.

No, DIN e-KYC must be filed by the director themselves using their DSC or through the MCA portal after OTP verification on their registered mobile and email. It cannot be delegated to company professionals or third parties due to the personal nature of the verification.

Required documents include PAN card, Aadhaar card (optional but recommended), passport (for foreign nationals), proof of address (utility bill, bank statement), and identity proof. Documents must be self-attested and uploaded in PDF format.

There is no government fee for filing DIR-3 KYC within the due date (September 30). However, a late fee of ₹5,000 is applicable if filed after the due date. Professional fees may apply if using consultants.

DIR-3 KYC is the e-form filed annually by directors to update details. DIR-3 KYC-Web is a web-based verification for directors whose details have already been validated and who have no changes to report. It is a simplified verification process.
